Kemwell Pharma Pvt.Ltd. is one of the leading players in the Indian pharmaceutical industry. The head quarter and the production is located in Bangalore , there is as well a plant in Upsala, Sweden. The company is running several HVAC system in order to cool their production facilities. The problem the company has faced was scaling in the condensers. This results in both higher Delta temperature in the condenser and an increased Delta pressure over the condenser. As there are very limited windows for shut down the HVAC system, the customer could not do the required cleaning of condenser as technically needed and has to life with less performance in the cooling and higher operation costs of the system. The feeding water of the cooling system has in between 600 to 720 ppm TDS, whereas the recirculated cooling water can reach up to 12,000 TDS. As can be seen to the left, a Merus Ring was installed just in the feed line to the condenser. Only after a few weeks a clear improvement of the actual situation could be seen. Whereas the required Delta temperature has been before in between 5 to 6°C it decreased one degree and has now a value of in between 4 to 5°C, which is inside the specification of this machine. The second improvement can be seen at the outlet pressure of the compressor. This pressure has been before the installation 0,4kg/cm2, after Merus dislodged the scale from the condenser the pressure increased to 0,6kg/m2. The power consumption of the compressor at a Delta Temperature of 6°C was 6.73kWh. At the now present 5°C cooling water the power consumption decreased to 3.37kWh. This is a saving of 50% electricity. This leads to direct savings of electrical power of more then 80kWh/day or 2,400kWh/month. Assumed the consumed electricity is produced by a coal power plant, (CO2 emission in India > 1,000 g per kWh using coal), the actual savings of CO2 are accumulating to almost 50tons a year.
