Brown drinking water from the tap

In a lot especially older drinking water installations carbon steel pipes or galvanised steel pipes are used. Such pipes have the tendency to have corrosion, which is then seen as brown water or rusty water. This happens often after there is for a longer time no water taken, as after some holidays, or at tap points which are not regularly used, such as in a guest room or a line to the garden, which is used only now and then. If the colored water gone after a few minutes, there is no need to be worried, this are minor corrosion spots, which build during still stand of the water. These loose rust particles are flushed out during first use of the tap and not seldom scares the owner of the house. If the brown color is gone after the first few gallons of water, there is on our opinion no need to be worried or even to invest.
If brown water is continues coming or every morning, there is an indication of more corrosion in the water system. If Merus can help to stop this, depends on the kind of corrosion.
brown drinking tap water Is the corrosion caused by impurities of higher metals, coming together with the water, or if it is caused due to mixed installations( e.g. copper and steel pipes ) which might cause galvanic corrosion, Merus is not able to help.
But in most cases the reason for this corrosion is aggressive water, or due to longer times where water is not used, the chance Merus is able to help is next to 100%. There are very easy ways to verify the success of Merus. You can easily take water samples in plastic bottles, as seen to the right, and keep them the bottle closed. The bottles should be of the same type and size, and should be closed after taking the sample. This samples should be taken from the hot tap water as well the cold tap water separate, so you are able to might find if both hot and cold water have a problem, or only one of them. The samples taken should be done always at the same tap point and as well after the same period of still stand in the water. If you now put the bottles in a row as they were taken you easy can see the development of the water coloring, and you can verify how much the situation has improved after using Merus. To get even a better indication, you ´should take the same sample before you install the Merus Ring.
Another efficient possibility to test, is when using a sink. If you fill the sink always to the same level with water, you can see the color of the water very good. A white sink is best, because here you can see the brown water best. By using this method, you should do this always under the same light condition and you should look from the same angel in the water.
Experience from several hundred successful solved cases, the brown water caused by light corrosion, is gone in less the 4 to 6 weeks. The water will be clear again and you will find next to now turbidity inside the water. There will be no need to replace the piping network. Comparing the cost and effort to replace a network to the easy installation and investment of Merus, a lot of money and effort can be saved.
